How to Repair a Rotted Soffit and why you should hire professionals to do it?

How to Repair a Rotted Soffit?

1. Pry off your shingle mold. Simply remove with a flat bar.
2. Take off the fascia. Use your flat bar once more here. If your fascia is still intact when you remove it, you can reuse it. 3. Remove the rotting wood from the soffit. You’ll most likely only need your hands to pull it off. If you know (or suspect) that an animal’s nest is the source of the rotting, be cautious when removing the wood. For the new soffit, cut a new piece of plywood.
4. Remove the rotted rafter (when applicable). Cut a piece of pressure-treated lumber to the original rafter’s dimensions.
5. Set up the new rafter (when applicable). Clamp the new wood to a 1-inch backboard and secure it with a screw.
6. Install the new soffit. Coat both sides and all edges of the new wood with a wax sealant. This will help to keep water out of it.
7. Install the soffit. Install with a screw to the underside of the eave.
8. Secure the fascia. Galvanized nails should be used.
9. Attach the shingle mold to the new fascia’s top.
